🌿 Frequently Asked Questions
🌸 About Our Potting Mix
What makes Darcy Jayne Orchid Care Potting Mix different?
Our blend is designed specifically for orchids that need excellent airflow and drainage around their roots. Unlike dense or compacted mixes, ours helps prevent waterlogging while still retaining the right level of moisture.
It’s professional-quality — without the luxury price tag.
Is this suitable for all orchids?
Our mix is ideal for most bark-loving orchids, including:
- Phalaenopsis
- Cattleya
- Dendrobium
- Oncidium
If your orchid naturally grows attached to trees (epiphytic), this mix will provide the breathable structure it needs.
Does this mix contain soil?
No. Orchids do not grow in traditional soil.
Our blend is soil-free and formulated to mimic the airy, well-draining environment orchids experience in nature.
How often should I repot my orchid?
Most orchids benefit from repotting every 12–18 months, or when:
- The bark begins to break down
- The mix becomes compacted
- Roots appear overcrowded
- You notice drainage slowing
Fresh mix helps maintain healthy airflow and root structure.
How much should I water after repotting?
After repotting, lightly water to help settle the mix around the roots.
Allow excess water to drain completely. Orchids prefer a “soak and dry” cycle — never sitting in water.

🌿 Orchid Care Questions
Why are my orchid’s roots turning brown or mushy?
This is often a sign of overwatering or poor drainage. Orchids need airflow around their roots. Repotting into a fresh, well-draining mix can make a significant difference.
My orchid isn’t blooming — what should I do?
Healthy blooms begin with healthy roots.
Make sure your orchid is receiving:
- Bright, indirect light
- Proper watering (not too frequent)
- Fresh potting mix
- A slight temperature drop at night (for some varieties)
Patience is key — many orchids bloom seasonally.
